Koppsele Sámi Settlement

Koppsele is one of Malå’s oldest Sámi settlements. It is located just outside Malå in a beautiful forest landscape, close to the Malå River.

As early as 1671, a settlement at this site is mentioned on maps of the area. Until the turn of the 20th century, Koppsele was home to the reindeer owner “Villak” and several other Sámi people. Surrounding the settlement is a fine old pine forest. From the parking area, a 2 km hiking trail leads to the site. At the location there is a traditional Sámi hut (kåta) and several other old Sámi buildings that have been moved there in more recent times. You can reach Koppsele on foot or by boat.
